Technical updation of captive limestone mines of Cement Plants

Growth of limestone extraction is unprecedented during last 27 years production front 12 MT to 76 MT (1960 to 1992 -93) with 627 mines in operation (Table No.1). With this growth by 2000 AD expected to reach 180 MT. As per number of mines is concerned, it is topping in the major ores & minerals, and next to coal in production with 233 MT in 1992-93 (418 in 2000 AD). Though iron ore and Bauxite are not having so much production but being captive mines of leading companies, it is heartening to note due to technological upgradation had been in these sectors. Limestone captive mines of cement plants plays major rote for clinker production. With new mines opening in limestone sector, mining personnel can play important role in feeding quality raw materials at competitive cost. The aim of paper is to present in-depth analysis of mining potential, contribution for cement plant and steel plant flux section. Though job changing is good for career opportunity but it is better for mines sector to build in-house prospects so instead of short term the direction will be long term. On technological front financial constraints, mining pit adequacy and potential from investment point, infrastructure facilities are not looked at par with plant. Exposure in various limestone/Innor mines have been discussed in the present paper.
