摘要

Closing of a mine after its economic life is associated with number of critical decision making based on the spatial as well as spates-temporal data. Restoration of mine site involves considering number of societal and environmental aspects. Thus it is essential for every mine during its working life to maintain a well designed GIS. The concepts of mine closure planning based on RS GIS assisted decision making was introduced by the authors in 2001 and a study was conducted to evolve a DSS. The present paper reveals the development process of the customisable software UMDSS v 2.0 with reference to an opencast coal mine and highlights the relevance of such system in complying with the requirements of mine closure and environmental management in mines.
