It gives me immense pleasure to participate in the 40th anniversary of Indian Mining & Engineering Journal. I consider it a privilege to be here among you to deliver this address. The contribution of IM & EJ in disseminating technical knowledge among the mining fraternity needs no elaboration.It is in the fitness of things to discuss technical, managerial and economic aspects of Hard Rock Mining, which is standing at the crossroads today. The Makrana marbles of the Taj, the deep gold mines of Kolar and the ancient Zinc smelters remind us of the rich hard rock mining capabilities of our forefathers. This nation of such proud heritage of hard rock mining now finds itself, quite inexplicably worried of international competition.
