April 25 is World Malaria Day. On that day in the year 2000,44 African leaders meeting in Abuja, Nigeria, committed to reducing deaths due to malaria by half by 2010. Ten years on, while commemorating Worid Malaria Day, this time under the slogan 'Counting Malaria Out', let us pause to reflect on the progress made in controlling this age-old scourge of mankind -how close are we to actually counting malaria out?
