There is a solution for every problem. There were problems in farriery in the past, and there continue to be problems today! The disappearance of animal traction was followed by huge losses of knowledge and know-how. A genuine abyss opened up betweentwo generations. Horses changed, and so did horse owners. Exit the draft horse, on which the foundations of the economy rested for centuries. Enter the leisure and sport horse. The rare farriers who continued plying the trade in the 1960s were at a lossto deal with a new clientele with totally different requirements. The democratisation and professionalisation of the horse world merely amplified the phenomenon. The new generations of farriers were faced with a gigantic challenge.
