Gyrophaena congrua (Erichson) (Staphylinidae) new to Ireland

Gyrophaena congrua (Erichson) is listed by Hyman (1994) as local in England and Scotland but not recorded from Wales, and there are no Irish records (Anderson et al., 1997). NBN (2013) has six records, mainly for southern England but excluding Scotland and Wales, with a single record post-2000. It is said to be associated with bracket fungi including Polyporus squamosus and Trametes sp. (Hyman, 1994) and would appear to be scarce. There is some confusion in the early literature as Joy (1932) conflated it with the much more widespread and common Gyrophaena fasciata (Marsham).
