The UK government has taken a huge stride towards meeting its '10% by 2010' renewable energy target, with plans to expand offshore wind power generation by up to 6 GW. The proposal, announced by Trade secretary Patricia Hewitt on 14 July, is a considerable leap forward for renewable power in the UK and denotes the most significant action by the government to date to deliver on its renewable pledge.
