Sellafield MOX plant to close: NDA blames Japanese nuclear uncertainty

THE UK's Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) has announced that the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear incident in Japan is forcing it to close the mixed oxide (MOX) fuel plant at Sellafield, putting 800 jobs at risk. The MOX plant separates plutonium from spent nuclear fuel and reprocesses it into new MOX fuel containing around 5% plutonium oxide and 95% uranium oxide.
