摘要

Dimethyl carbonate (DMC) is used for a variety of applications in the chemical industries owing to its low toxicity, high oxygen content, and versatile chemical nature. It is a safe and environmentally acceptable alternative for phosgene and dimethyl sulfate as carbonylating and methylating agents. DMC is traditionally produced from phosgene and CO routes that are environmentally hazardous and rigorous safety measures are involved with these processes. Thus, synthesis of DMC through non-toxic and environmentally benign routes has received considerable attention.
