Could you drive from New York to California without a good road map or without using the Interstate system? Probably. Butit would take you much, much longer to do it that way, right? Well, for the last 15 years, livestock geneticists have been taking a similarly long, back-roads route to discovering the genes that control traits like reproduction, growth and pretty much every other trait which could add some profit to raising beef cattle.
