A university,research laboratory and a company have jointly developed a new gallium zeolite catalyst that can convert waste plastics such as polyethylene into aromatic compounds like benzene and toluene.The development,realized by joint collaboration betweenMuroran Institute of Technology,Kanagawa Industrial Technology Research Institute and Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries(IHI),came about when they detected that MEL and MWW catalysts also have a similar catalytic function to that of a conventional MFI catalyst.
