MOFs are crystalline materials consisting of metal ions coordinated to bridging organic linkers, forming a micro- or mesoporous structure offering an exceptionally high degree of synthetic versatility. In addition, they have remarkably high thermal and chemical stability such that a large number of water-stable MOFs are now known and strategies for improving water stability in those that are not are now available.
