NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CASHEW JHARKHAND(20th and 21st November 2013) Summary of discussion and recommendations

A National Conference on cashew was organized jointly by the State Horticulture Mission, Jharkhand and Directorate of Cashewnut and Cocoa Development Cochin on 20th & 21st November, 2013 at Holiday Home, Ranchi. This conference was organized in view of vast potential for promotion of cashew cultivation in nontraditional states of India to keep pace with the growing domestic and global demand. The theme of the conference was "Cashew Development in India - Strategies for non-traditional states". As intended the conference had an in depth discussion with all stake holders coming under the cashew sector from major cocoa growing states and drawn feasible strategies for the development of cashew in the nontraditional states of the country. The conferencewas attended by two hundred and fifty delegates including scientists, development workers, farmers, processors and entrepreneurs. The seminar deliberated on production, protection, processing technologies, marketing, status of research, utilization of cashew apple and other waste products etc. The conference also held valuable discussions where the experience of various stake holders including' farmer's were shared. A plenary session was conducted on the second day and recommendations of the seminar were discussed and suggested for implementation.
