The synergy ceramic concept was proposed when it became clear that conventional R&D did not allow the development of new ceramics satisfying requirements for advanced use, even after significant improvements. It had because clear in the process of R&D of ceramic gas turbine that Japanese ceramic manufactures were not able to provide structural ceramics required by the ceramic gas turbine project. The Synergy Ceramic Concept based on hyper structure control was proposed by Prof. Koichi Niihara of Osaka University to solve the problem. The proposal was not effective in solving the problem of COT project directly, but it was an epoch-making proposal for Japanese ceramic R&D (Table 1, Figs.1 and 2).
