For the experimental analysis of the local loads at spot welded joints the knowledge about the straindistribution around the spot weld is required. Speckle measuring techniques (ESPI) offer thepossibilities of complete analysis of the strain field by full field, three dimensional measurement fromone side of the spot weld. Therefore, the deformations of a spot weld are measured with a 3D-ESPIsystem iu the three coordinate directions when the measuring object is loaded. From there, the strainsare calculated according to the mechanics equations. Measuring results obtained with strain gaugesand ESPI techniques are compared with finite element simulations.
