Mitsubishi Chemical: Restart of Kashima Complex Could Take 'Some Time'

Mitsubishi Chemical says that operations at its Kashima, Japan manufac- turing complex will not resume for some time because of severe damage to piers at the adjacent port, and to other infrastructure, caused by the earthquake and tsunami that struck the northeast of the country on March 11. Mitsubishi halted operations at Kashima immediately after the earthquake. "As the berths are damaged and the roads and infrastructure around the plant area are also damaged, delivery or shipment of cargo would be next to impossible," Mitsubishi says. "Further, restoration of capabilities will take quite some time."
