but for the want of a half-point to finish qualifyingfor the AQHA World Championship Show in the amateur division, A Sudden Illusion might never have entered the year-end high-point race. As his amateur owner, Joanne Garnett of Lincoln, Nebraska, attests, "Earl" was not intended to win the AQHA all-aroundjunior horse honor. He just did it anyway."The amateur classes have always been my goal, and I look at open as just an added benefit," Joanne says. "This was my first year showing him, so we kept going to horse shows until I could get him qualified in amateur trail."By mid-summer, Joanne and Earl were a mere half-point shy of qualification for Bank of America Amateur Week — and continuing to pick up open points in the meantime.
