Asking students to give time and energy to their community sounds like a great idea, but when do they have the time? With school, extracurricular activities and work, many students are stretched thin. They don't have the time to invest in their communities. Or do they? What if students had the opportunity to invest in their communities and got academic credit for it? It's possible through service learning. Service learning provides students with course-based, credit-bearing educational experiences.Students can participate in an organized service activity that meets an identified community need, gain practical experience in specified academic areas and reflect on the service activity.
