Test chamber periodic maintenance: pay me now, or pay me later!

Recently I was asked by a TEST subscriber to scribble down some reasons why periodic maintenance (PM) should be performed on our environmental chambers. The why and how of doing PMs has multiple factors involved. I will try to cover the ones I know of, with the hope that it will help someone else out there justify putting chamber PM into their department budget. There are a lot of details involved in keeping a chamber running reliably, and a good PM covers all of them. This is why a proper chamber PM is not cheap. Someone who does a five-minute PM on your chamber is not doing a good job.
