Forgive my writing this letter so many months after the January issue of volume 105 of the American Journal of Gastroenterology was published.In the introductory paragraph of your first editorial as Editors in Chief ("Passing the Torch: The American Journal of Gastroenterology 2010"), you wrote that the American Journal of Gastroenterology is the "oldest surviving publication in gastrointestinal diseases [starting out] as the Review of Gastroenterology in 1934 (1)." In fact, this honor belongs to the current journal Digestion, which was founded by the father of Gastroenterology, Ismar Boas, in 1895 as the Archivfur Verdauungskrankheiten mit Einschluss der Stojfwechselpathologie (Archives for Digestive Diseases with Inclusion of Metabolic Pathology, 1895-1938).
