Giant inflammatory polyposis as the first manifestation of inflammatory bowel disease.

To the Editor: On 27 October 2008, a 21-year-old man with a 3-month history of diffuse abdominal cramps, constipation, and iron deficiency anemia was referred for a surgical consult.The pain was diffuse, but pointed mostly to the right lower quadrant. He denied hematemesis, hematochezia, melena, diarrhea, fever, chills, and shortness of breath. He did not take any medication, and he did not smoke or drink alcohol. His past medical history was unremarkable. Family history was negative and did not include any unusual familial syndromes.
