Mitsubishi Chemical reports huge rise in earnings, Mitsui Chemicals swings to profit

Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings, the parent of Mitsubishi Chemical, says net profits more than doubled in its fiscal first nine months, ended 31 December 2014, compared with the year-ago period, to ￥75.41 billion ($645 million). Nine-month sales increased 8%, to ￥2.68 trillion partly due to the completion of the acquisition of industrial gases firm Taiyo Nippon Sanso (Tokyo) in the third quarter of the fiscal year. Operating profits for the first nine months increased by 41.5%, to ￥124.2 billion. Net profits increased partly due to gains associated with the acquisition of Taiyo Nippon Sanso, Mitsubishi says.
