摘要

Disorders of the cardiovasculature, including heart failure, hypertension, and atherosclerotic disease, are major worldwide health problems of ever increasing proportions. The search for the pathogenic origins of these disorders occupies center stage and challenges the biomedical community's creative potential. These challenges can be met and our collective innovative endeavors fulfilled if we seek a broader vision. A vision where the freedom to discover inspires us to shed the shackles of current dogma and to take the road less well traveled. A vision whose realization will be secured by "team science," where biomedical scientists representing a broad range of disciplines work together in a culture of cooperation and common aspiration to unravel the mysteries attendant with the appearance of these diseases.
