24% of Japan’s refining Capacity Unavailable Due to Turnaround, Fire Accident

Amid spring maintenance season in Japan, 189,000 barrel per day Kashima refinery of JX Nippon Oil and EnergyCorporation came to a stop on account of a fie accident. As a result, operations of seven refining facilities has beensuspended as of June 1st, of which total refining capacity is 953,000 bpd, accounting for 24.3% of Japan’s total refiningcapacity of 3,916,700 bpd. Such a huge refining capacity has been temporarily lost.
