S.Korea’s Low-Grade Coal Consumption Falls after Introducing Coal Levy

Five South Korean gencos have reduced their consumption of thermal coal with low calorific value under the influence of South Korea’s new coal levies in the wake of the revision of its tax system. On July 1st, 2014, South Korea’s Individual Consumption Tax (ICT) was modified, as a result of which, a tax was newly imposed on thermal coal.
