BASF is likely to use its own technology in a previously announced, world-scale methane-to-propylene plant using shale gas as feed- stock it is planning to build on the Gulf Coast of the United States, CW has learned. Peter Schuhmacher, president/process research and chemical engineering at BASF, told CW on the sidelines of today’s annual research conference at Ludwigshafen that BASF is developing a methanol-to-propylene (MTP) process, starting with methane gas as feedstock, in a partnership with an engineering company.
