Since 2000, China's mould/ die industry has grown by 15% a year, with its output value ranked third in the global market, says a new report from Research and Markets. However, last year, the economic meltdown exerted a negative influence on the industry and it decreased by 24%, while exports were down by 4%. The US-based company says that middle and low-grade products dominate the market and face the problem of overcapacity while large high precision products are fewer. Major products are plastic and stamping moulds and the mould sector has a 34% share, compared to the 40% or more in developed countries, meaning that it has a long way to go.
