Upscale of activities in the bioplastics arena

Bioplastics materials supplier Cereplast expects to offer the first grade of algae-based plastics for commercial use by the year end. The product has the ability to replace 50% or more of the petroleum content in traditional resins. Currently, Cereplast is using renewable materials such as starches from corn, tapioca, wheat and potatoes in its Compostables and Hybrid bio-based resins, and it has now turned to algae-based resins to complement this. Frederic Scheer, Founder/CEO says the properties of the algae hybrid materials the company has developed are now very close to meeting expectations.
