Cashew (Anacardium occidentale L.) has now gained special status in the international scenario as a plantation crop of considerable foreign exchange earning. The indigenous production of raw cashew nuts in India is declining, production of raw nut is not fulfilling the requirement of the processing industries. There are various factors governing the yield of cashew, in which the insect pest problem is the major one and the cashew stem and root borer (CSRB)-Plocaederus ferrugineus L. is one of the serious pest of cashew. The trees infested by CSRB are out rightly killed (Sundararaju & Bhakthavatsalam, 1994). This is a serious pest both in East and West Coast of India. The extent of attack of the CSRB assessed in different cashew plantations are varying from 1.6 to 40.0 per ceni in Kerala, Karnataka. Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Orissa, An experiment was carried out at the Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwa Vidhyalaya, Raipur (Chhattisgarh), India under campus Shaheed Gundhadhur College of Agriculture and Research Station, Jagdalpur, during the year 2007-08 and 2008-09 to study the tolerance level of seventeen cashew cultivars against CSRB. Out of seventeen cashew cultivars, three cultivars registered under tolerant category in which only one cultivars (Sel-2) had not infested by CSRB; while, two cultivars (Ullal-2 and VRI-2) with the lowest level of mean CSRB infestation (2.78%). Whereas, six cultivars were under the moderately tolerant group (5.56 to 8.33% CSRB infestation) and six cultivars under susceptible group (11.11 to 13.89% CSRB infestation): while only two cultivars were found under category of highly susceptible (>15.0% CSRB infestation).
