Two topics stand out in this issue of Peritoneal Dialysis International. Oneis guidelines, and the other, forthe second consecutive issue, is peritonitis. Guidelines and recommendations, have proliferated throughout medicine and nephrology since the early 1990s. Our own International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD) has, over many years, prepared and published in PDI a variety of guidelines and recommendations about topics such as peritonitis, dialysis adequacy, catheter care, and volume management. Associate Editor Martin Wilkie has had a long-standing interestin the challenges that occur in converting guidelines into better practice, and in this issue, he is the senior author on a concise and important paper focusing on guideline implementation. One key area addressed is the importance of making guidelines available in languages other than English. Recently, the ISPD has been working on that issue, and the society's website (http://www.ispd.org/) now has a freely available version of the 2010 peritonitis guidelines in Mandarin Chinese. More translations will appear soon.
