摘要

Patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) treated by chronic dialysis have a high mortality rate and more than half of this mortality is attributable to cardiovascular (CV) disease (1). Apart from traditional risk factors, uremia-related risk factors also play an important role in the development of CV disease. Such factors include malnutrition, inflammation, oxidative stress, endothelial dysfunction, vascular calcification, and arterial stiffness (2).In this issue of Peritoneal Dialysis International, Han etal. describe theinfluence of inflammation, using high-sensitivity serum C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) as its marker, and arterial stiffness, estimated by pulse pressure, on CV disease in a retrospective study of a Korean peritoneal dialysis (PD) population (3).
