MgO-C bricks, which are widely used to line refining furnaces, such as steel converters, have excellent corrosion resistance and superior spalling resistance. It is also well known that the properties vary widely depending on the carbon content ~(1)). This paper reports the corrosion of MgO-C bricks with different carbon content (3 to 18 mass percent), by low-basicity slag in a rotary slag test, and discusses the corrosion mechanism indicated by the experimental results.
