OVERCAPACITY HURTS TDI SECTOR: MDI PRODUCERS ARE GOING FOR PIR SYSTEMS

Isocyanate suppliers at UTECH Europe indicated that there is a question mark over the future viability of some smaller plants and players in the TDI (toluene diisocyanate) business, partly because of surplus capacity and low prices, and also as a result of the current trend for investment in much bigger plants.At Swedish TDI supplier Perstorp, volumes have improved since December, but price-wise,the situation is rather difficult, said Fabrice Garrigue, marketing manager for Perstorp's isocyanates business.
