We read with interest the report by Eggert-Kruse et al concerning the association among serum, semen plasma antibodies to Chlamydia trachomatis, and male fertility, recently published in this Journal. In this extremely interesting and stimulating report, the authors highlighted the role of the chlamydial serology results (ie, IgG, IgA, and IgM antibodies in seminal plasma or serum) determined using a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-directed enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay to evaluate the sperm function and subsequent fertilizing capacity. Although they underlined the role of chlamydial serology in C. tracho-man's infection diagnosis, Eggert-Kruse et al concluded that the IgG, IgA, and IgM antibodies in semen plasma and serum were not indicative of reduced sperm function or subsequent fertilizing capacity.
