Austa Electric 216.8 m dollars profit in first six months of operations

A net profit of 95.3 million was earned from total operating revenue of 580.9 million dollars. As a Government-owned corporation, Austa is exempt from Commonwealth income tax, but is required to be on an equal competitive footing with the private sector. Accordingly, under the State's Tax Equivalent Regime, Austa paid the equivalent of corporate income tax to the Queensland Government, of 35.1 million dollars. Austa also paid a dividend to its shareholders - the Treasurer and the Minister for Minerals and Energy -totalling 71.49 million dollars, or 2.6 cents per share.
