UK COAL plans to extract 1.25 million tonnes of coal from under 130 hectares of land which includes the former Minorca Colliery site in north west Leicestershire, have received a major boost with the local Ashby Canal Association flagging up a range of benefits the mining scheme could produce. In its planning application, UK COAL stated that as well as providing a community fund of 150,000 pounds for distribution to local worthy causes, the Minorca scheme could help deliver the next stretch of the Ashby Canal between Snare-stone and lllott Wharf.
