MARKET OF OIL AND PETROCHEMICALS

Conjuncture situation in the world market of oil and petrochemicals has at last changed in March 2003 as compared with the several previous months that featured nervous world markets, including markets of oil and petrochemicals. Average prices for Ural oil reduced by approximately 20 percent over March 2003 and stopped at the level of USD/MT 180 - 190 as on the end of the month. However it is necessary to note that the following minimal and maximal levels of prices for oil were fixed during the month: correspondingly USD/MT 160 - 165 and USD/MT 235 - 240. Average prices for petrochemicals in March 2003 also diminished by 2 -20 percent depending on its type. It constituted approximately USD/MT 325 - 330 for A-92 gasoline and USD/MT 270 - 275 for gasoil versus indices of USD/MT 330 - 335 both for gasoline and gasoil. Minimal and maximal prices for the given petrochemicals in March 2003 were fixed at the level of USD/MT 270 - 275 and USD/MT 335 - 340 for gasoline A-92 and USD/MT 250 - 255 and USD/MT 360 - 365 for gasoil. Tendency to reduce average prices has been established in the Russian oil market in March 2003. Level prices for oil as proposed in wholesale trade decreased by RUR/MT 25 or 2 percent for the period under review. They constituted RUR/MT 1,400 - 1,550 in the end of March versus RUR/MT 1,400 - 1,600 in the early March. Tendency to augment prices for A-95 and A-76 gasoline by 7 percent or RUR/MT 700 for A-95 and by 1 percent or RUR/MT 50 for A-76 gasoline has been observed in the market of petrochemicals in March 2003. Average prices for A-92 gasoline and gasoil have decreased by approximately 1 percent or correspondingly by RUR/MT 50 and RUR/MT 100. Average wholesale prices of petrochemicals did not show considerable changes over the month. Insignificant variations were witnessed for A-92 gasoline (roughly by 0.3 percent) and for gasoil (by 0.5 percent). Average prices for A-76 gasoline have somewhat reduced (approximately by 0.6 percent). More substantial decrease was observed for A-95 gasoline (about 2 percent). Average prices in the domestic market of Ukraine constituted the following figures as on the end of March 2003: UAH/MT 1,940 - 2,200 for A-95 gasoline, UAH/MT 1,900 - 2,000 for A-92 gasoline, UAH/MT 1,580 - 1,670 for A-76 gasoline, and UAH/MT 1,640 - 1,700 for gasoil.
