摘要

The unique reactivity of aromatic trifluorovinyl ethers (TFVE) makes them precursors to two types of semifluorinatecl polymers. Thermally activated cyclopolmyerization gives perfluorocyclobutyl (PFCB) polymers, and base activated addition of phenolics gives fluorovinylene aryl ethers (FAEj polymers. TFVEs are synthesized from commercial phenols or from the versatile 4-bromotrifluorovinyloxyl intermediate. Having two pathways to TFVEs allows for the incorporation of nearly any functional group into PFCB or FAE polymers. The diverse functionality of PFCB polymers has led to their interest in variety of optical applications.
