摘要

Targeting coal-fired plants just didn't cut it for one national green group, which recently released a report focusing on one of the coal industry's (as well as many others') transportation modes - the railways. In its latest report, titled "Smokestacks on Rails: Getting Clean Air Solutions for Locomotives on Track," the Environmental Defense group examined diesel train pollution nationally and in Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Detroit, Houston-Galveston and Los Angeles. The group claims that diesel locomotive air pollution is linked to about 3,400 premature deaths and other serious health effects -such as lung cancer and respiratory problems - every year. Given that, combined with all the estimated deaths the greens attribute to coal mines, we'll all be pushing up daisies inside a month.
