After recently celebrating the completion of its $10 billion construction project at its Port Arthur, TX refinery -an expansion that is expected to eventually bring the facility's petroleum coke production to more than 3 million tons - Motiva announced it plans to shut down one of its new units due to corrosion damage. The existing refining capacity of 285,000 barrels per day will not be impacted, according to Reuters, but the 325,000 barrel-per-day expansion could be down for five months or more, placing on hold approximately 2.5 million tons of new petcoke supply.
