摘要

Alpha Natural Resources isn't necessarily partial to one region of the world when it comes to its potential merger or acquisition activity, but remaining where it is accustomed to mining coal might still be the company's best bet. That's the opinion of CEO Mike Quillen, who is willing to expand operations anywhere doing so makes economic sense. It just seems from Alpha's vantage point that Central Appalachia best suits its current plans for possible expansion. "Our theory is very simple: whatever opportunity gives us the most value of net income and positive cash flow," Quillen said. "We are not restrictive as to where we would go. When you go back a couple of years, no one wanted to be in Central Appalachia, and it was kind of the region to get out of. Now there are very good margins in Central App.
