A wage increase totaling 6 dollars per hour over the life of the contract and retention of health care benefits for active and retired miners with no cuts are among the key elements in a tentative agreement between the United Mine Workers of America and the Bituminous Coal Operators Association, the UMWA announced. The tentative agreement, reached June 13, would be effective from July 1, 2011 through December 31, 2016. "This is the largest wage increase in dollar terms over the life of a single agreement UMWA members have ever received in our 121-year history," UMWA International President Cecil Roberts said.
