It was a year like all years, except 2009 saw unprecedented loss of electricity demand, economic hardship and travails, locusts in Lithuania, frogs in the Philippines, a hail storm that destroyed a storage shed in Gadsden, AL, and... okay, it was a year not much like any other year. But the coal industry marched on, doing its Serious Business, while President Obama contemplated an Arugula Summit as a way to reach out to angry voters in the coal states.
