Hobet Lord of Rings EPA has run around coal industry, closes in on new permit

On the same day West Virginia politicians were grilling Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson - going so far as to accuse her of trying to do away with surface mines - the EPA announced it has reached an agreement in principal on one of the 79 permits being reviewed. Coincidently, the mine happens to be in West Virginia. Patriot Coal subsidiary Hobet Mining seems to be closing in on getting a new permit for its Hobet 21 facility in Lincoln and Boone counties. Officials with EPA were in Charleston meeting with the West Virginia Department of Environment, and news about the Hobet permit was reported in the Charleston Gazette.
