摘要

Feeling philanthropic? Instead of giving money to homeless alcoholics, providing them with a can of cider may be more beneficial according to a report in the Canadian Medical Association Journal. Researchers in Ottawa studied 17 homeless adults, all with long and chronic histories of alcohol abuse. They were allowed up to 15 glasses of wine or sherry a day. After an average of I 6 months, the number of times participants who got in trouble with the law had fallen 5 I per cent from the three years before they joined the programme, and hospital emergency room visits were down by 36 percent.
