US President Barack Obama, while announcing a loan of 1 7.4 billion US dollars to save General Motors (CM) and Chrysler from bankruptcy, said this 'necessary step' should not allow the auto giants to 'squander this chance to reform bad management practices'. The US loans to GM and Ford were made on the condition that the companies restructure and prove their viability by 31 March.
