While cynics scoff about whether anything can be flawless, the six sigma concept developed by Motorola has won many converts due to its success as a driver of cultural change in companies. The six sigma concept grew out of various quality initiatives at Motorola in mid-80s. Because all operations used the same measurement, the goal for defect reduction was uniformly applied to all activities.
