The training budget is often the first to go in a difficult economic climate, even though research and anecdotal evidence suggests this is a big mistake. Training consultant, Dave Underwood, highlights some of the concerns that are commonly raised over training issues and offers suggestions to get the most out of your training. Training is one of a number of processes that can be used to enhance skills or knowledge but is often deemed low priority with insignificant or indeterminate benefits. Training budgets are the first casualties in a cost-cutting luxury. In fact the reverse is true. Specific benefits can arise from effective training whether it is performed on or off the job, and the benefits should be clearly evident and long lasting. Skills develop as experience is gained but an effective foundation in any subject is important if the company is to gain the most from an individual.
