Is EU Frozen Food on the Fast Track? Figures from Different Sources Clash

Consumption has almost certainly gained in most countries, but the reported increases have been modest for those that issue or commission their own statistics. Has frozen food, other than ice cream, passed the 14 million-ton mark in Europe? That's theestimate of Food for Thought (FFT), Geneva, Switzerland, but the research firm's figures don't agree with those from other sources, including industry groups and, for Denmark, Nielsen. FFT's European total is 14.456 million tons, up 14.1% from 12.663 million in 2010. That's a pretty hefty increase, given Europe's economic troubles, but it's quite possible that consumers are switching to frozens in a big way because fresh alternatives are costlier and don't keep as well. Yet there are a number of anomalies in the data.
