Market pulp pricing in North America is set to decline this month for the sixth straight month amid abundant supplies while offshore spot prices approach cash costs for high-cost producers, market participants said. Domtar, Cantor Pulp, and Mercer International announced Dec. 1 US list prices of $890/ tonne, down $30/tonne for northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK), contacts told PPI Pulp & Paper Week. The decreases came after worldwide chemical market pulp producer inventories increased by two days in October to 39 days. It also comes during a time when competition typically heats up and buyers snap up cheap spot deals — not only in the USA, but in Asia and Europe.
